6th September 1980. The paradox here is that I am talking to my eldest about sounds that changed my life and these two bands came up. Magazine and XTC. Equipped with the same musical tools with so many other groups of the day, but with a respective outlook that changed everything. Amazing irony and sarcasm in their own individual ways. Certain types of human frailty and not only hitting out but doing their best to defy. I have fond memories of the EP above and the subsequent film clip from the concert because I was there.
I made mention of certain types of the shock of the new in a previous post. Well this was two shocks in one night. Magazine took elements of relationships and human interaction and confronted them head on. XTC did the same with all the other things in the world, from diplomacy to religion and so much more.
