so I'm watching my weekly dose of my favorite program with the usual parade of serial idiots trying to bring all kinds of crazy stuff into the country via airport customs. As far as food goes, they always talk of the risk of a substantial fine, then comes news of the amount. Usually around $300.00.
the one item that kills me every time is a substance called birds nest, which is the saliva of birds that is hardened and dried and is made into soup. In it's raw form it can sell for up to $3000 a kilo.
what I would like to see in many of these cases is an individual fine for each different item, from food to seeds. In many of the cases, they bring in so many foods that are different. Also, they should add a punitive fine for goods riddled with insects or soils.
not so much to discourage the travelers; more for the reaction which is usually so lame and pathetic. Raising the on the spot fines would really make for some truly great television entertainment.
Part of me thinks just what exactly does a person have to do to get a substantial prison sentence of 10 years and/or a fine of $56,000. Maybe bring in a human corpse.
The pretending to be ignorant should also incur a hefty fine.
