I have had this happen to me a number of times over the last few days on my VOIP phone.
"hello?"
"hello, I'm a patient"
a slight pause
"oh sorry, wrong number"
as I said, I have had this happen to me a number of times over the last few days. The thing is, as I can tell from the tone of the voice and she keeps saying the same thing, it's the same person.
"hello?"
"hello, I'm a patient"
a slight pause
" I know"
a slight pause and she hangs up on me.
upon reflection, I decide I am getting bored with this. If she rings again, I am going to get to the bottom of this. Part of me thinks is this person using redial in the hope of a different result or has simply written the number down wrong?
"hello?"
"hello, I'm a patient"
a slight pause
"sorry, but this has happened more than once, what number were you after?"
"oh sorry, I dialed a six instead of a four"
sitting there afterwards, that last reply came across kind of creepy. There is an old Peter Cook and Dudley Moore routine where Dud asks Pete,
"so you've learnt from your mistakes?"
"very much so. So much so I can repeat them exactly"
this moment didn't remind me of that routine
